abstract

during 2009–10, cheese samples were collected from shops and cheese factories in fars and khuzestan provinces. isolates were recovered from cheese using malt extract agar (mea) and potato dextrose agar (pda). teleomorphic characteristics such as morphology of ascocarps, asci, ascospores and anamorphic characteristics such as conidiophores, phialides, conidia and chlamydospores were investigated. based on the above criteria byssochlamys spectabilis, the teleomorph of paecilomyces varioii, was identified.

First report of Byssochlamys spectabilis as a teleomorph of Paecilomyces variotii from Iran

During 2009–10, cheese samples were collected from shops and cheese factories in Fars and Khuzestan provinces. Isolates were recovered from cheese using malt extract agar (MEA) and potato dextrose agar (PDA). Teleomorphic characteristics such as morphology of ascocarps, asci, ascospores and anamorphic characteristics such as conidiophores, phialides, conidia and chlamydospores were investigated...

Sexual reproduction as the cause of heat resistance in the food spoilage fungus Byssochlamys spectabilis (anamorph Paecilomyces variotii).

Paecilomyces variotii is a common cosmopolitan species that is able to spoil various food- and feedstuffs and is frequently encountered in heat-treated products. However, isolates from heat-treated products rarely form ascospores. In this study we examined by using molecular techniques and mating tests whether this species can undergo a sexual cycle and form ascospores. The population structure...

First report of Paecilomyces marquandii from Iran

During 2008, the presence of Paecilomyces species was studied in fields in Fars province. Soil samples were collected from 0–20 cm depth. The isolates were recovered using a soil dilution plate method directly from soil. Isolation was performed from soil using malt extract agar, rice agar, oat-meal agar and potato dextrose agar. Anamorphic characteristics such as morphology of conidiophores, ph...

First report of Emericella echinulata as a teleomorph of Aspergillus from Iran

During 2009–10, the presence of ascomycetous species in soil was studied in Fars province. Isolates were recovered from soil using modified Czapek (Raper et al. 1973), malt extract agar (MEA) and potato dextrose agar (PDA). Teleomorphic characteristics such as morphology of ascocarps, asci, ascospores and anamorphic characteristics such as conidiophores, phialides, conidia and chlamydospores we...

Draft Genome Sequence of the Formaldehyde-Resistant Fungus Byssochlamys spectabilis No. 5 (Anamorph Paecilomyces variotii No. 5) (NBRC109023)

Byssochlamys spectabilis no. 5 (anamorph Paecilomyces variotii no. 5) (NBRC109023) was isolated from a soil sample in 2001 in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. This fungus is highly resistant to formaldehyde. Here, we report a draft genome sequence of P. variotii no. 5; this draft was produced with the intent of investigating the mechanism of formaldehyde resistance. This is the first report of the g...

Paecilomyces variotii as an Emergent Pathogenic Agent of Pneumonia

Paecilomyces variotii is a commonly occurring species in air and food, and it is also associated with many types of human infections. Pneumonia due to Paecilomyces variotii has been rarely reported in the medical literature. The authors report a 48-year-old patient with refractory lymphoma who underwent allogenic hematopoietic cell transplantation and developed pneumonia due to Paecilomyces var...
